Bicycle boxes and other parking facilities

Parking Spaces for Bicycles on Campus

In addition to the bicycle racks, which are located in front of almost every building, Ruhr University Bochum has set up several bicycle boxes spread across the campus and health campus.

Freely usable parking spaces

In front of almost every building at Ruhr University Bochum there are bicycle racks that are firmly bolted and welded to the ground. In future, the few bicycle racks that are still in place, to which the bicycle is attached to the front wheel, will be replaced by these much more convenient bicycle racks.

Chargeable bicycle boxes

In addition, several lockable bicycle boxes offer a secure parking space that protects your bike from theft, wind and weather.

Equipment

All bicycle boxes are lockable, fully covered, illuminated and visible from the outside for security reasons.

Lockers are installed inside the bicycle boxes for storing helmets, locks, bags or the battery for your e-bike, for example. The lockers have a deposit lock. The door can be locked and the key removed by inserting a 1 euro coin.

In addition, there are signs on all bike lockers indicating the number and location of the bike locker as well as a QR code that leads directly to the site plan with the current construction sites, closures and detour.

Conditions

A secure parking space in a bicycle box can be applied for against payment of a usage fee of 18 euros per semester/in advance (= 3 euros per month). The period of use is at least one semester and can therefore only be terminated at the end of a semester.

Use

A transponder is required to open and close the bicycle boxes. Members of the Ruhr University Bochum who already have a service transponder can have it reprogrammed upon application. Members of the Ruhr University Bochum who do not have a service transponder can apply to purchase a transponder for a one-off fee of 8 euros.

The offer is aimed exclusively at employees and students of the Ruhr University Bochum. The Ruhr University Bochum affiliation is proven by providing the Ruhr University Bochum LoginID. Only one parking space is allocated per Ruhr University Bochum LoginID.

How to Apply for a Parking Space

First, download the application form for the allocation and use of a bicycle box and fill it out electronically. The form is a PDF file with fillable form fields.

This must be completed as follows:

Page 1 - Application

Fill in all fields under points 1 to 3 and sign the signature field under point 3.

Page 2 - Direct debit authorization

Fill in all fields under point 2 and sign in the signature field under point 2. Point 3 will be filled in by the administration afterwards.

Page 3 - Terms of use

Read the terms of use carefully and sign in the signature field.

Please make absolutely sure that the form

  • legible
  • correctly
  • complete

legibly and completely, otherwise the application cannot be processed.

What happens next?

Once we get your application, we'll check it to make sure it's all complete. If we've got all the info we need and there's a spot available in the bike box you picked, we'll add your details to the allocation list. You'll then get an email to let you know we got your application. If there aren't any spots available in the bike box you picked, you'll get an email about that too.


Your application will then be forwarded to the locking technology department for programming of access authorization. Once this process is complete, you will receive an email informing you when you can start using your parking space.


Please note that the entire processing procedure can take up to two weeks from the date of application.
